DGCA gave this instruction to aviation companies regarding carrying pets in flight, said- give complete information on the website
Pet on Flight Rules: DGCA has advised all aviation companies to prepare and put on their website their policy related to carrying pets in flight.
Pet on Flight Rules: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Tuesday advised all airlines to prepare a policy related to carrying pets on flights and display it prominently on their website. Airlines are allowed to carry animals, birds and reptiles on their flights in and out of India.
Pets are allowed on these airlines
At present, at least two Indian airlines - Air India and Akasa Air - allow passengers to carry pets on all flights. At the same time, in Spicejet, pets are allowed to be carried in the 'cargo hold' (the part of the aircraft in which the goods are carried) of domestic flights.
A senior DGCA official said that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has not yet issued any standard and recommended guidelines regarding the carrying of pets in the passenger 'compartment'.
The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) of America has allowed the country's airlines to make policies at their own level regarding carrying pets in the cabin. Safety regulators in other countries of the world have also not issued any specific policy regarding carrying pets inside the cabin and have allowed airlines to frame rules and regulations for the same.
Airlines can make their own rules
The DGCA official said that as per the current norms, airlines are allowed to frame their own policy with regard to carrying pets/live animals in the cabin, as the ultimate responsibility for the safety of the flight rests with the pilot-in-chief .
"All airlines are advised to frame a policy regarding carriage of pets and display it prominently on their website for better understanding of the passengers," he added.
