New Delhi. Credit rating agency Icra said on Wednesday that India's domestic air passengers grew marginally by 2-3 per cent to 6.9 million in September. The number of domestic air passengers in August was around 67 lakh. Domestic flights operated at 54 per cent capacity compared to the same month last year. There was a 74 percent increase in the number of air passengers on a year-on-year basis. The airlines operated around 61,100 flights in September as against 39,628 in the same month in 2020, the release said.
Supriyo Banerjee, Vice President and Region Head, ICRA said, “In September 2021, the average daily departure of flights was around 2,100, which is significantly higher than the average daily departure of around 1,321 in September, 2020 and around 1,900 in August, 2021. was excessive. The average number of passengers per flight during September was 113, while the average number of passengers per flight in August was 117. However, the improvement continued in September. The civil aviation ministry has reduced the permissible passenger capacity to 50 per cent with effect from June 1 due to the second wave of the pandemic. It had increased this capacity to 72.5 per cent with effect from August 12, which has now been increased to 85 per cent with effect from September 18 till further orders.
