Airline wants to fly ahead of Istanbul
In a conversation with ANI, Malhotra told that "Indigo has ordered 500 more aircraft as part of its expansion plan. Currently, we are operating 1,800 flights, of which 10 percent operate on international routes. As of now, we are serving the Indian sub-continent and We have been flying only to the countries around it, the farthest we have been to Turkey and Istanbul, we want to go beyond that, so we have partnered with Turkish Airlines. There is a codeship agreement between the two, under which Indigo will be able to take passengers from India to Istanbul, and from there will be able to fly further.
IndiGO's CEO has also insisted on being international
Giving this information, IndiGO CEO Peter Albers said that the company is now emphasizing on internationalization. Amid increasing competition in the Indian market and Air India placing a large order for aircraft, the Indigo chief said that the Indian market has a lot of potential for growth going forward and there is room for many airlines. He said, "There is a lot happening in the Indian aviation landscape... The fact that the Indian aviation sector is entering the next phase, including the consolidation being done under the Air India group, is a natural evolution of the market." '
Indigo has more than 300 aircraft in its fleet and the company currently operates to 76 domestic and 26 international destinations. Recently flights have also been announced for two more domestic destinations - Nashik and Dharamshala.
