IndiGo Airlines News: Aviation regulator DGCA has suspended an air traffic controller for three months after it allowed simultaneous departure of two IndiGo flights on January 7. two planes flying together
Two IndiGo Flights 6E455 (Bengaluru to Kolkata) and 6E246 (Bengaluru to Bhubaneshwar) took off simultaneously from the northern runway and the southern runway respectively at Bengaluru airport on the morning of 7 January. After which they came face to face in the air. However, there was no aerial collision between them.
what was the incident
The DGCA called the incident a 'Breach of Separation'. It occurs when any two aircraft come within their minimum required distance in the airspace.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in a statement on Monday, "The South Tower Controller in coordination with the Approach Radar Controller dispatched 6E 455 and also the North Tower Controller dispatched 6E without the coordination of the South Tower Controller and the Approach Radar Controller." Ordered flight 246."
Regulatory said that both were moving towards each other due to the aircraft flying together. To save them from collision, the approach radar controller gave diverging heading. The DGCA treated the entire matter as a serious incident and asked the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to investigate it.
DGCA suspended
Based on the regulatory assessment, the DGCA has decided to issue a warning letter to the tower supervisor for not monitoring the movement of the ATC (Air Traffic Controller) tower and not reporting the incident. Simultaneously, the license of the North Tower Controller who was also the Watch Supervisory Officer (WSO) of the shift has been suspended for a period of three months as he did not follow the procedures and rules regarding runway operation.
