Air India: Tata Group-owned Air India has offered to re-hire pilots after retirement. This offer will be for a period of five years. According to an internal communication with Air India, the airline is doing this to stabilize its operations, as it plans to acquire 300 single-aisle aircraft. A senior Air India official said that a consent letter has been sent to the pilots who retired till three years ago.
There is a shortage of pilots
Pilots are the most expensive asset for any airline. They are paid more as compared to other roles like cabin crew and aircraft maintenance engineers. Moreover, the lack of adequately trained pilots has always been an issue in the domestic aviation industry.
Air India introduced VRS scheme
The company has also introduced a Voluntary Retirement Scheme for its employees including crew members and is simultaneously recruiting fresh youth.
this is the rule
Air India Deputy General Management (Personnel) Vikas Gupta said in an internal mail, "We are happy to inform that as Commander in Air India for a period of 5 years or till attaining the age of 65 years. Whichever is earlier, after retirement you are being considered for contractual recruitment."
"During the post-retirement contract period, you will be paid admissible remuneration and flying allowance as per Air India's policy for such appointments," he said.
According to the mail, interested pilots have been asked to submit their details with written consent by June 23. The query sent to Air India spokesperson in this regard did not elicit any response.
